Belgaum Institute of Medical Science plans 7 new PG courses surgery Belgaum Institute and 10 PG courses in biochemistry, forensic medicine or forensic medicine and toxicology, microbiology, paediatrics, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, social and preventive medicine or community medicine and anatomy, Once these courses are started poor people can also think of doing these courses which are very expensive in private colleges.

Belgaum Institute of Medical Science (BIMS) plans to introduce seven post graduate courses from next academic year.

The institute, which was in the news for being the top 10 medical colleges in the country, will start PG in surgery, gynaecology, ENT, ophthalmology, psychiatric, orthopaedic and radiology.

Members of Medical Council of India, New Delhi, will visit the centre in December or January to see whether the institute has required facilities to start all these courses. The institute has proposed minimum of four seats in each course.

The move will be a boon for students from economically poor families. If any student wants to pursue these courses in private colleges, they need to cough up Rs 80 lakh to Rs 2 crore. Radiology is the most expensive courses in private colleges for which one needs to cough up Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 crore.
